This testing kit allows you to measure the level of carcinogenic combustion residues in your indoor environment following a fire.

Your dust sample is analyzed in a laboratory for Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs).

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are carcinogenic chemicals produced in large quantities during a fire. 

Their presence in indoor environments poses a health risk to occupants.

We recommend using this kit to determine whether occupants can safely enter the room where the fire occurred without risk to their health:

  • After a fire, to assess the level of pollution.
  • After decontamination work, to assess the effectiveness of the response and the methods used. 

What's included in your Scan4Home Fire kit?

Your testing kit contains all the supplies you need to collect your sample, and it includes analysis of your sample; the results will be sent to you in a comprehensive test report.

  • A Scan4Dust filter—a dust collector for collecting a dust sample—consisting of a nozzle to attach to your vacuum cleaner hose, an adapter, and a dust filter
  • A sample collection form to return to the lab along with your sample.
  • A prepaid envelope (Metropolitan France only) for sending your sample to the lab.

Which polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are being tested for in your dust sample?

PAHs are present in high concentrations after a fire. The analysis of your dust sample covers a comprehensive selection of 16 PAHs listed by the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency). The PAHs tested for are:

How do you collect a dust sample using your Scan4Home kit?

Your test kit contains a Scan4Dust sampler that attaches to your household vacuum cleaner. Once it’s attached to your vacuum cleaner, simply collect dust from the living area you want to test. Once the filter is 3/4 full, you can send your sample to the lab for analysis.

How do you send your dust sample to the lab?

Once you have collected your dust sample, place it in the bag included in your kit.

Next, place your sample along with the collection form in the prepaid return envelope.

All you have to do is drop your envelope in a mailbox.

How long does it take to receive the results?

Your sample is analyzed within a few days of its arrival at the laboratory. Once the results have been interpreted, our team will prepare your personalized analysis report.

The analysis report will be emailed to you no later than 15 business days after your sample is received by the laboratory.
