PAHs, or polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, are carcinogenic chemicals formed during combustion processes. PAHs are indicators of fire and are present in significant quantities after a fire.
To protect the health of occupants, post-fire cleanup requires the effective decontamination of areas directly affected by the fire and areas affected by smoke from the fire (rooms adjacent to the damaged areas).
